March 7, 2021 The Third Sunday in Lent – The Art of Forgiveness – 3 Rev. Dr. Martha M. Campbell

Today is the Third Sunday in the Season of Lent, as we come together as the Westminster Community online – we gather to celebrate our connection with each other – brothers and sisters from many different places – all held together by our fellowship and worship. Here is the link for the service today:

The Community comes together with the Call to Worship and Prayer and our souls are prepared as we listen to the Prelude: excerpts from “Suite in D minor” by Nicolas Clérambault – played by Dr. Imre Szilas, the Westminster Chimes and then we sing together the second stanza of: “O Jesus, I Have Promised.”

Dr. Twining Campbell shares the announcements and prays that we may be grateful for all the people we know who help us in almost every possible way, followed by the Lord’s Prayer.

Following a brief musical interlude we join in the Litany of Forgiveness as we are led by both Pastor Martha and Pastor Twine which lead us into the Anthem: “Hymn” by Vangelis played by Imre Szilas on multiple keyboards.

Pastor Martha leads the community in the Prayer of Illumination and then reads the lessons from the Sermon on the Mount:  Matthew 5:43-48 and 7:1-6.  In her sermon, Pastor Martha addresses one the greatest challenges facing all people – the tendency to judge others – and how to stop and trust God to love and care for us and others.

The Charge and Benediction are pronounced and the service closes with the Postlude: “We Believe in One God” by Zoltan Kodaly played by Dr. Imre Szilas on the Westminster pipe organ.

Our service is filmed by Robert Smith and we are very grateful for his devotion to film, edit and provide these services week in and week out. Please share these weekly services with others — they are available on our website (WPCPas.org) and our Facebook and YouTube pages (Westminster Presbyterian Church, Pasadena, CA).
